Michigan PAs Attend the AAPA House of Delegates

Posted By: Julia Marie Burkhardt Advocacy, Membership,

Our Michigan Academy of Physician Associates (MAPA) delegates had a productive visit to the 2024 American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) House of Delegates (HOD) meeting, which took place in Houston, Texas, during the annual AAPA Conference.

MAPA co-sponsored a resolution with the Association of Physician Associates in OB-GYN (APAOG) that reaffirmed AAPA’s commitment to maintaining access to over-the-counter emergency contraception.

Throughout the three-day meeting, Michigan delegates actively participated in both business and reference committee sessions. Discussions covered a range of topics, including doctoral degrees for PAs, innovative teaching methods in PA education, the utilization of medical technology, and issues related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I).

A particularly notable discussion was on the establishment of a standing DE&I committee, which aligns with MAPA’s stance that DE&I should be a top priority to best serve our patients. Chief Delegate Julia Burkhardt was selected to serve on a Reference Committee, where she played an active role in shaping the policies adopted by the HOD. These policies will significantly influence the future direction of our profession.

MAPA extends its gratitude to the following delegates for dedicating their time to attend the meeting and advocate on behalf of Michigan PAs:

  • Julia Burkhardt, Chief Delegate
  • Chasity Falls
  • Yolonda Freeman-Hildreth
  • Brittanie Hamlin
  • Tim Kessler
  • Ashley Malliett
  • Zarna Patel
  • Charles Regan
